A cocktail ring is a rather large and showy ring, very often decorated with a single very large stone. These rings take this name because they were worn at American "cocktail parties", by ladies who wanted to show off and, therefore, to be noticed. In this case the eye is immediately drawn to the enormous central stone, an emerald cut
