An interesting globular species of Echinocereus with prominent ribs and a prominent tap root. Most species (like. E. rigidissimus or E. reichenbachii) are short columnar with no ribs. The plants have dark green ribs and a lighter, more mint green, body, especially when young. It almost looks variegated, but technically it isn't. Forms clumps in time and makes big pink flowers in the summer.
